August sees The Latent Book club turn its spotlight on three points of interest. 📖🔎
Humboldt’s Gift, by Saul Bellow
A classic, dripping with Bellow’s neuroses and insights into the human psyche. A tale about two erstwhile intellectual titans, once firmly in each other's orbit. Now one is dead, and the other has fallen from grace, and wracked with guilt from spurning his erstwhile friend. What gift will Humboldt bestow, and how will it change our protagonist, Charlie Citrine’s life? This is a thought provoking and deep work, with plenty to say. Winner of the 1975 Pulitzer Prize.
London Review Of Books
Still attempting to clear a backlog of the LRB is the theme. So so the 29 June 2023 issue will be in focus over the next few weeks.
Search History, by Amy Taylor
This is the breakout novel by Australian Author Amy Taylor. It deals with the anxieties of love, and the hidden history of a potential partner that can be discovered via the internet in the 21st century. Sounding by turns promising and compelling, we’re looking forward to seeing how the story turns out, and will be watching this upcoming artist’s career with interest.
That’s all for now, reviews will be posted as they are completed. Until then, happy reading.
